Hello Adam,

Ok.

How am I expected to change the default footer type?

Directly into /var/lib/sympa/list_data/<list_domain>/<list_name>/config (meaning once for each list), or is there a dedicated web interface for doing that?

Can this be done once for all lists, globally or by domain?

Do you have details about the hack for inserting HTML tags around all URLs?

Regards,

Gingko

Ack, I'm sorry again - I just realized my answer below is incorrect, or at least incomplete.

Part of our solution was indeed changing the default footer type. But unfortunately, that only worked on a much older version of Sympa. On current Sympa, we *also* had to hack the code to manually insert HTML tags around all URLs, because of the way it organizes the MIME parts. We've been intending to submit a patch, but even after we do that, I'm not sure if this will be an easy "yes" for addition to Sympa.

So I'm not sure if I've helped at all here, but I wish you luck.

Ah, right, sorry... as far as I know, the answer is no, and we ran into all the same issues as you, and our solution was to change the default footer_type from "append" to "mime" (ie. attachment), so then at least it's the same for everybody.

Many mail clients will actually still display the plaintext attachment by default as if it were in-line text, at least for plaintext messages and maybe even for HTML messages. And because all the mail clients we've tested will automatically make URLs clickable if they appear within plaintext, as you have seen, it works the way you want it to for most people.

It's not a perfect solution, but it has been good enough for us.
