     I'm on some lists that do this and have never understood the
     appeal or rational for doing it.  Personally I find it
     useful to be able to distinguish between messages that were
     sent to me personally as verses being a member of a group.
     Having the subscriber's address used in the To: field erases
     this clear distinction.

I agree that the ***To: header*** must, at least for ethical reasons and to
permit an answer to the full list, be the list it self.

However a remind of the very mail address of a subscriber
within the ***body*** (content) of the message he/she receives
from the list is interesting for the following reasons.

Many users have many mailboxes/aliases forwarding to the same mailbox.
Example :
   address@concealed => address@concealed => address@concealed
   address@concealed => address@concealed
The mail client of Albert is configured to receive mails from address@concealed
and the main identity associated is based on  the academic address (alias)
address@concealed

Because Albert forgot he subscribed, years ago, to the list
with the address address@concealed
he is not able (unless looking attentively into the mail source) to unsubscribe
or modify his settings ( because he will automatically and naturally
use the address address@concealed )

It can help if, in each message, there is a confirmation that the subscribed address is
address@concealed

The only solution I found until now to help people with basic computer knowledge
(enable to understand the headers in the mail source)
is to ask them to forward me the last mail received thru the list so that I can
inspect the headers and see how the list was expanded to their
subscribed address.

However, for ethical reasons, I don't like asking/receiving forward's as this can be
dangerous for the privacy : example :
if one of the mailboxes/aliases expanded in the chain of "received from" headers
appears to be : address@concealed
I'll know, for ever, that there is/was an affair between our friends Albert and Alice...

Regards,
