Hmm... How is that set up in the conf file?

When I set it up before, the editor email was sent an email that just
stated there was a message to be approved. It gave no indication on how
to approve it.

Have you considered doing this in the MTA? Postfix, for example, can
restrict
mail delivery according to the sender's IP address (see
http://www.postfix.org/access.5.html).

Sympa allows moderators to approve or reject messages by sending an
email.
