Yes, of course. But, it is still paramount that members may avoid seeing
the low valued mails/comments. On slashdot it has a strong
'disciplinary' effect: If you want to be read, you must add something
new and relevant, and you must explain it in a short, convincing and
trustworthy way. If your reputation stems from how many highly valued
mails/comments you have posted, you build up reputation by being
professional and decent, and you will be careful not to loose you
credits even if you use a pseudonym.
I think it is very important to develop such mechanisms that may promote
serious and decent debate - and makes life more difficult for trolls and
other debate destroyers.
