The use of ODBC here for external datasources is working fine.  The only 
changes necessary to make it supported by Sympa were to add the rules for 
which parameters are required and how to build a connect string.  The main 
thing was to make the 'database name' field hold the DSN value for ODBC 
(which is then looked up in the obdc.ini file).  This means that DSNs need to 
be set up in advance by a sysadmin, though the users can then configure their 
own access credentials.

I've submitted info about this to the feature request server online, though 
it doesnt allow me to upload files so I was unable to upload the patch.
