Ok, as far as I understand this enables me to add another field, eg "what 
color do you like"
and the user could input "a touch of velvet".

If I only want to know their NAME (first and last) and I would like to use 
"gecos_user" how do I do that?

I use a lot of soap stuff to interface with SugarCRM, and if I know use 
"something else" 
to specify the NAME it will give me some problems.


Maybe I do not understand it correctly?
