I remember something else.

It turns out that suidperl is disabled by default (it has been
deprecated by the perl developers) on SUSE10.1/SLES10.

To fix that on SLES10, add the line:

/usr/bin/sperl5.8.8     root.root       4755

To /etc/permissions.local

And run "chmod 4755 /usr/bin/sperl5.8.8"
