I know exactly what you mean. ;-)
If you run sympa 5.2.1 and access the archive as listmaster (probably
listowner too, but haven't tried that) in month-view and navigate a page
back, sympa suddenly shows a checkbox in front of each message, which
can be used to perform mass-deletion. And now you can navigate back to
the page you started from, which will now show checkboxes too.

Don't ask me why the checkboxes don't appear when you access the
archive. And navigation still is far from perfect, since after
performing deletion for one page, you won' continue on that page, but
will instead restart from scratch. So if you have to delete messages
from several consecutive pages, this can be really annoying.

And be careful, using this mass-deletion I hit a racecondition once and
created to deletion-requests for the same message. archived picks up
those requests and performs them serially. However, after the first
deletion, the second one can't be processed, since the message already
has been deleted... archived goes bang, and you have to delete that
request and restart archived.

below arc/LISTNAME@DOMAIN you will find a directory for each month.
Ignore the html-files. In arctxt you will find a text-file for each
message. Identify the ones which are spam, delete them and as listmaster
select "rebuild archives" for the given list. The html-files will be
regenerated.
