OK - I understand that bit.  I just wondered if there was a way to ask sympa.pl to produce a properly formed config.tt2 based on the configuration of an existing list.  If not it's not a big deal to produce one by hand based on the config file in expl/<list>/
  
There is no way to get back to the variables that were used to create a list ; that's one big difference with families. Within a list family sympa keeps track of the relationship with the mother family and the variables used to create the list.
