The other good news is that somebody here is working on a new concept in Sympa, "list families". A list family is a group of lists with a common template and a dynamical inheritance relationship. IE: if you update your template, the changes will be applied to the mailing lists. The template would use an XML datasource to build mailing lists.

The design for this feature is not finished yet ; so if you have special requests, it is still time to express them.
Maybe you could describe us the way you build your 20 000 mailing lists, what are the parameters and where you get the lists information (obviously in a RDBMS).

Well, I guess the good news is that it only takes a couple of minutes to update the template and complete running the script to regenerate all 20,000 lists based on the backend database...
