Hi,
do not install the sympa -version for redhat, rather compile the sources
version 3.4.4.3. For configuratoin use similar arguments as follows :

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/sympa \
--with-confdir=/usr/local/sympa/conf \
--with-etcdir=/usr/local/sympa/etc

After the installation if files can't be created, you may have to
customize the mods for some subdirecties,
