Hello!
I just want to inform you about an experimental upgrade on one of my servers.
The machine is using Sendmail 8.12.0beta10 as MTA. This version of Sendmail
does
not run as root anymore. It uses the user smmsp instead.
The server was running SYMPA 3.0.3 before and got upgraded to 3.2.1. After the
upgrade I did some testing and noticed that the queue program would not accept
mails. The SendMail Restricted SHell (smrsh) exited with error code
EX_TEMPFAIL
and the mail was not processed by SYMPA.
I changed the permissions for queue and bouncequeue to let these program run
as
user sympa and the error code of smrsh disappeared.
- -rwsr-xr-x 1 sympa sympa 29620 Jun 15 20:12 bouncequeue
- -rwsr-xr-x 1 sympa sympa 30815 Jun 15 20:12 queue
I thought some of you might know since the next Sendmail versions will
certainly
continue to run under an unprivileged user. Does someone else have any
experience with SYMPA and the new Sendmail Betas?
Best regards,
René
