Hi, John-Paul

Here are the problem I experienced on Sympa installation on RHEL
4/Ubuntu 5.04. RHEL 4 is derived from FC 3, so your reply makes me get
more confidence.

On RHEL, I tried both Sympa 5.1B and and Sympa 5.0.1. I was stuck
I was stuck at Template-toolkit, it requires GD::text. I could not
compile GD::Text in CPAN,so can not installed GD from CPAN. I
installed GD from source and from
RPM. and got a error message as follows,

/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/GD/GD.so'
for module GD:
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/GD/GD.so:
undefined symbol: gdImagePngPtrEx at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm line 230.

I checked the path and GD.so is there. Is there any version
requirement? My perl is 5.8.5. the one came with RHEL 4.

I also tried to install Sympa sympa-4.1.2-8.i386.rpm, package
downloaded form Sympa website,of course it requires a number of other
perl modules. eg, mhonarc-2.6.12-1.fc3.noarch.rpm, which requires
Unicode::MapUTF8 and Unicode::String. I installed these 2 modules via
CPAN, but unfortunately, RPM seems know nothing about what CPAN has
installed. I am trying to find out how to make RPM and CPAM can
recognize each other.

On Ubuntu. I install sympa 4.1.2 deb package with help from Synaptic.
MTA is postfix 2.1.3 came with Ubuntu. I was stuck at some permission
problem. Whenever I send a message to symap@mydomain, sympa log such
info into /var/log/sympa

Jul 18 14:17:37 sandbox3 sympa[14184]: Cannot open message file
/address@concealed :
Illegal seek
Jul 18 14:17:37 sandbox3 sympa[14184]: Unable to create Message object
/address@concealed
Jul 18 14:17:37 sandbox3 sympa[14184]: Moving bad file
address@concealed to bad/
Jul 18 14:17:41 sandbox3 task_manager[14190]: creation of
/var/spool/sympa/task/1121710661..purge_orphan_bounces._global
Jul 18 14:17:41 sandbox3 task_manager[14190]: with model
/usr/share/sympa/global_task_models/purge_orphan_bounces.monthly.task

everything under /var/spool/sympa are under sympa:sympa, but the msg
mentioned above is under root:nogroup,

I am looking forward to your advice.

Thanks!

Garuda
