Now I will read the chapter "Templates" in the documentation. Perhaps this will help me.

Hi Jörg,

thank you for your suggestions.

Unfortunately, my configuration looks different, and I can't find the files.

Take a look at what happens when I start searches from /. (The `grep -v ballier` is meant to exclude sources in my home directory.)

root@sympa:/# find / -name "*templat*"|grep sympa|grep -v ballier

Hi Ralph,

You can fully customize the welcome mail and other mails for each list by copying the template file from site or robot level to list level and change it there. This is fully independent from the sympa language pack.

Go to https://your_sympa_domain/sympa/ls_templates and load the mailtemplates. Search the welcome.tt2 in the mailtemplates and copy it to your listtemplate. Then you would get:

/var/lib/sympa/list_data/your_sympa_domain/your_list_xy/mail_tt2/welcome.tt2.

You can edit the text in the GUI under Administration->Listenvorlagen. This can be any text/any language, as it is not localized by sympa.

Same is true for the request_auth.tt2 when using double-opt-in and the bye.tt2 for confirming unsubscription.

Jörg

Hi,

I have understood that much by now. However, I believe that these translations only affect the fixed strings of Sympa. In that case, it’s just a matter of translating one string after another.

But my problem is a different one. I want to completely redesign the welcome message (and other messages) for list members. These are strings that don’t yet exist in Sympa.

I can also ask the question differently: Currently, new list members receive a welcome email in German. How can I change this text?

Regards,

Ralph

Hi,

I have successfully installed Sympa.

A colleague is now working intensively with the program. He noticed that
the interface is entirely in German, and the welcome message is also
sent in German. However, when he looks at the templates, they are all in
English. How is that possible?

There are files of translated strings that have the English string and the
corresponding string in the other language.  In the distribution, the
German translations are:

po/sympa/de.po
po/web_help/de.po

They are compiled into Gnu message catalogs when you build the software, and the
software looks up the translated strings at runtime.

Also see this site where the translations are managed:

R's,
John
