Hi Matthew,
there is certainly a lot of effort and work involved. Thank you very much for making your elaboration available.
There is only the accretion of decades of being a grumpy sysadmin.
I will certainly use parts of it, but most of it has already been realized here (more or less).
Hence my quip about being late to the party.
You probably can't tell me why bulk.pl doesn't start automatically.
Because you were foolish enough to use systemd. ;-)
I start all of `sympa` via the SysV compatibility mode:
- /etc/init.d/sympa is a symlink to /opt/sympa/etc/init.d/sympa
- /opt/sympa/ is a symlink to the current sympa - so, right now, /opt/sympa-6.2.74/
- So, it is the init script published by the Sympa people themselves. I assume they know what they are doing. ;-)
If I might pontificate:
- systemd is good for what it is good for - that is: "some event happened on my system and I want whizbang things to happen".
- systemd is overkill for many things - that is: "the computer has booted, start the things".
But, again, I am grumpy, old, and generally unpleasant, so take that under consideration.
On another note - ChatGPT is great, but I don't trust the cloud, and have become enamored with the Dolphin series of models, run locally via Ollama. Between the new $3k+ nVidia AI box they dropped, to the more moderate sub $1000 50xx series cards just announced (I'm looking closely at a 5070 Ti), running AI locally to help you with things to limit data leakage becomes a real, viable possibility.
(And then you can turn the AI off and run CP2077 at 4K on Ultra settings with full raytracing...)
Cheers.
