Autoresponder is a fairly challenging field. However, in my opinion, careless implementation can easily lead to problems such as mail loop or unintended spamming. If you look at the source of the plugin (I wrote it), you will see that it is slightly long for a very simple feature.

If you want a feature-rich autoresponder, you can of course enhance Sympa, but I think you can also do it with the other well-designed software or services.
