thank you for your answers. :-)

The suid bit was set and sympa_newaliases-wrapper was owned by root. Changing the ownership of the aliases file did not solve the problem. but downgrading Sympa to 6.2.42 did.

Upgrading Sympa to 6.2.44 without any other modifications introduced it again so that I assume that there is a bug in 6.2.44 or - more probable - that I did not read the release information carefully enough. ;-)

I will post it here when I found the cause of the problem.
