You can search for users by name if you are in the admin menu of a list. So if you happen to know at least one list your user is a member of, you can find his/her the email address within the list, then you can search for the address in the admin menu of sympa too.
But it would be much better to be able to search for users by name in the sympa admin menu directly.

Hey,

Just noticed that Sympa (6.1.17) allows you to search for subscribers by
email, but not by name.
That's kind of a problem, since sometimes you know the name of the
person, but not their email.

Am I missing something?
