So I think I have the virtual code working.. but all mail is being delivered
as the domain listed in sympa.conf ..

how can I get list.domain.com to not deliver as the default domain of
internal.private.lan ..

internal.private.lan is what I have defined in sympa.conf for http_host,
domain and wwsympa_url
