Thank you for the response.  I am already smart hosting the mail off of the machine.  In the diagram you have here:

It is mentioned that configuration files can be kept on NFS so sympa.pl can be distributed and run across several machines.

I think I will try this configuration next.  I do believe sympa.pl is the bottleneck right now because my systems aren't very powerful but I have plenty available to me.  

I'm going to try to get several systems handling sympa.pl and sharing config files over NFS and see how that works out.
