Hi David,

The first message has clearly been rejected because the From: address is forbidden by the default 'loop_prevention_regex' parameter, see http://www.sympa.org/manual/conf-parameters/conf-parameters?s[]=mailer&s[]=daemon#loop_prevention_regex

However you should have had a log of this kind :

Ignoring message which would cause a loop, sent by
address@concealed

If not, you either have a problem with your syslogd or you are filtering Sympa log messages (note that not all error messages use the 'err' log level).

I don't see any obvious reason why the second message has been rejected ; I suggest you first solve your logging problem.

I have been looking at messages that have been going missing from some of our mailing lists. Can anyone explain why these two messages were moved to the 'bad' directory:

The first is a bounce message from one of our servers:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

The second is a fairly standard phishing attempt. In this particular case obviously I don't care that it didn't get through but I would certainly like to know why it didn't make it through:

I have looked through the Sympa documentation and had a quick look at the code but it's not obvious as to why these messages were never delivered to the lists.

Dave.
