I just discovered the Duke University mailing list service and wanted to share this finding with you :

It's a great example of Sympa GUI customization.

Thanks for the words of praise, Olivier! I'm a fan of giving credit where it's due, though, and while I invested a great deal of time and labor in getting our Sympa installation looking as good as possible, I couldn't have done it without the "Rin" WordPress theme <http:// www.brokenkode.com/rin>, the power and capability of Template Toolkit 2, and the ease of producing local and robot-level customizations for Sympa -- you guys have designed the different layers where one can change look and feel exceptionally well, and it is one of my favorite features of Sympa.

Also note that because Rin is GPL'd, my customizations are GPL'd as well. I've put copies of the web_tt2 directory up at:

https://lists.duke.edu/sympa-tt2/

Please drop me a line if you end up using these templates for anything -- I'd love to know where and by whom they're being used!

If I'd wanted to do something similar with Mailman (you may have heard of it, I think it manages some mailing lists or something ;) ), I'd have to do some hacking at the code itself, which would've meant we couldn't use vendor-maintained packages and could've caused more serious problems.

Maybe we should start a contest for of the most different-looking Sympa server...

I'd love to see what some of the other sites are doing!

It also reminds us that Sympa still lacks a good user documentation...we're working on it.

Perhaps some of the sites that have written up guides for their users would be willing to throw in what they've got, where possible...

Thanks,
Jeff (address@concealed)
