Hi all,

I'm currently trying to generate some meaningful stats for sympa, but
currently I fight with "meaningful". ;-)

So, basically I'm running munin (http://munin.sf.net) which gathers
numbers using plugins and pushes them to rrd. Very nice, especially
since plugins are trivial to create.

Currently I started by counting files in those subdirectories of
~sympa/spool: auth bounce digest distribute expire moderation msg
outgoing subscribe task tmp topic msg/bad distribute/bad

I have 21 in digest (seems to be ok), 886 in moderation (yup, sounds
reasonable), 206 in outgoing (hey, what's that?), 26 in task and 650 in
msg/bad. Everything else is 0-2.
Hmm, wondering about outgoing, really....

Well, I'm not really sure wheter or not these numbers are really
meaningful, but I'll keep them. ;-)

But what else could be a source of meaningful numbers?
I'll start parsing syslog and will probably count lines like
"Moving bad file XXXXX to bad/",
"Deleting old file /opt/sympa/spool/msg/bad/",
"Message for XX from YYY rejected() because sender not allowed",
"Key XXX for list YYY from ZZZ sent to editors",
"Message for XXX from YYY accepted"

Any other ideas what information could be meaninful and could be counted?

After doing those scripts, I'll contribute them to munin and drop you a
line.
