Yup, it was the sticky bit that got me. Apparently a simple "cp sympa
sympabak -R" is not enough to REALLY make a quick backup of a complex
directory structure. The permissions blew up, and it took quite a bit of
work to get it all back. Every time I think I have linux all figured out, I
step on another landmine...
