Thanks for your help.
Apparently the problem arises from a dubious Sympa translation:
"modérateur" in French should be (quite simply)
"moderator" in the English version and not
"editor".

Modérateur = "Personne qui veille à ce que les messages
circulant dans un groupe de discussion en respectent l'esprit.

In French they are called "modérateurs".
