Hi Peter,

Can someone recommend some hardware specs to run Simpa with approx 500,000 users. I know thats a very nebulous request, and load will vary wildly depending on number of lists and number of users per list, but some "rule of thumb" guidelines would be great.You might get more information from people in this liste having a more intensive use of Sympa, but here are some information on our ML server :
I plan on off loading the SMTP traffic and virus scan to an existing SMTP
cluster.
* 150 000 subscribers
* 300 lists
* 7 000 000 mail per month
Our server is a bi-Xeon 2.2GHz, with 2Gbyte mem.
We are aware of memory leaks in Sympa processes aparently linked to the number of lists and/or subscribers.
Therefore you should probably choose a system with enough memory.
I am planning to use Postgresql as the DB backend on a separate box (or cluster) so basically I am looking for info on how much hardware I need for the main sympa list management software and web frontend.Some time ago we did some benchmarks on Mysql vs PostgreSQL with SYmpa. MySQL was 20 to 100 time faster the Pg on most queries. Maybe Pg was not well tuned (but neither was Mysql) but I'd recommend using MySQL for 500 000 subscribers...
