Jean-Philippe,

Just followed your advice an set the s-bit for user+group:

-rwsr-sr-x  1 sympa sympa 624136 Dec 15  2014 wwsympa.fcgi*

-rwsr-sr-x  1 sympa sympa  10272 Dec 15  2014 wwsympa-wrapper.fcgi*

IT WORKS!

The maintenance mode message is gone and I just logged in.

All seems normal.

I never noticed that this had changed!

Many thanks for your help.

I’ve been looking into this for almost 3 weeks (not full time, but had full time stress!)

You have given a good start to my new year.

Have a wonderful day!

Mark

Marc,

If I could check in the source code for the message “The mailing list server is in maintenance mode, no operations can be performed during this period.”, I could check the condition(s) for which the message displays and find out what’s wrong this way…

Cheers,

Mark

Hello,

Could you verify the data structure's version in that file /home/sympa/etc/data_structure.version ?
Is the version up to date ?
Is there any error related Fastcgi in Apache error logs ?

If you use wwsympa.fcgi, try to use "wwsympa-wrapper.fcgi" in Apache configuration.
(the owner of the file "fcgi" has to be "sympa").

Marc,

I executed "sympa.pl --upgrade" and received the reply that there was nothing to upgrade.

I've been looking to solve this for more than a week: nada.

So I got so frustrated that last friday I configured a new server with Ubuntu 16.04, Apache 2.4, MySQL, Sympa, Postfix, Dovecot, s-mail and allotter things needed.

I runs fine with a test list so now I wil migrate the old database to the new installation and hope it keeps on working.

I will compare the database structures and make a solid backup before starting this crusade.

If you have experience moving Sympa databases between systems: any intel is welcome.

Happy New Year and many thanks for your reply.

Mark

Did you run "sympa --upgrade" ?
It also happens if wwsympa.fcgi does not work with the rights of sympa user.

After updating Ubuntu from 12.04 to 14.04 WWSympa displays a message that it is running in maintenance mode and we can no longer login.

I have looked for days to find why Sympa does this and how to turn off this “maintenance mode” but can not find anything in the documentation or even on the internet.

Does anyone know why this message is displayed and how to activate WWS again?

Error! Filename not specified.
