(Having run into exactly the same problem earlier this week).

You want to delete the oldest message in:

   /var/spool/sympa/outgoing/

Any other messages in that directory are the pending backlog of messages 
queued for the archived daemon.  They should get processed when you 
restart Sympa in order to restart archived.
