The mailing list for listmasters using Sympa

hello list,

i am trying to install sympa on top of postfix on raspbian (in order to
accommodate some recent google decisions to bounce email from a postfix
simple mail expander).

versions: sympa/oldstable,now 6.2.40~dfsg-1+deb10u1 armhf 
          postfix/oldstable,now 3.4.14-0+deb10u1 armhf
          Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)

after just using the package installers, i was able to create a test
list and users received the list-request welcome message.

however trying to send to the list got me "user unknown" errors.

i tried to integrate using the documentation here:

for single domain

this made it worse, list sending still didn't work and now new list
requests did nothing (although the wws seemed to think they were
successful).

reinstalled the package and recreated the configuration and now it's
even worse.  if i use wws to create a new user so i can administer a
list wws thinks it works but no new password email arrives.

any help much appreciated!
