Hello Betty,
I don't know if anyone has answered this question directly for you yet. If not: In the case you described, the users are not removed from the all-list but excluded from this list. You can see this on the subscribers page by clicking on the "Exclude" button.
This mechanism is described on the https://sympa-community.github.io/manual/customize/data-sources.html page under "Excluding members from dynamic update".
Kind regards, Sabine

Hi –
The environment: - I have a series of lists, say, address@concealed, address@concealed, list3@lists. domain. - I have a list, address@concealed, into whose “Subscribers defined in an external data source (member_include)” I have added list1, list2, and list3. - Thus all-list subscribers are the combined subscribers from list1, list2, and list3 and they appear in all-list’s Subscriber Table with Sources being “include_list list1” (or whichever list was the data source for that address)
Now I want to unsubscribe address@concealed, but I am an inexperienced list owner. So instead of deleting user1 from their originating list, say list1, and then “synchronizing members with data sources” on All-list I instead delete user1 from All-list’s subscriber table.
That leaves user1 no longer subscribed to All-list, but I have NOT unsubscribed user1 from list1.
The question: In the situation where I have deleted a list’s subscriber that comes from another list’s data, but NOT deleted them from the originating list, I expected that if I clicked “Synchronize members with data sources” on All-list then user1 would reappear as a subscriber on All-lists, because user1 is still in lists1.
What’s happening is user1 does NOT reappear as subscribed to All-list after synchronization.
Is this expected behavior?
If so then I need to be careful about who can own a list with included members to avoid this mistake.
Thanks. Betty
