Hi listmasters,
(CC’ed sympa-users)
Thanks very much for managing mailing list service.
What I feel regretful with mailing lists hosted on listes.renater.fr is that
their
“email address protection method” for archives (web_archive_spam_protection)
are set to be “cookie”.
By this setting, people must click “I’m not a spammer” to browse
public archives unless they have logged-in with RENATER federation.
Still more crawlers of search engines can’t retrieve contents of
archives at all, because they will never click the button.
Since search engines are blocked, people can’t easily find information like
tips on installing/configuring Sympa, using Google, DuckDuckGo, bing
etc. (Please try it.)
I think concealing information in this way is big loss for Sympa user
community, and one of obstacles to promotion of Sympa in Internet.
So I wish listmasters to consider changing configuration of lists related
to Sympa to the other option, either “javascript” or “at”.
- At least these lists are subject of this mail:
sympa-announce, sympa-developpers, sympa-users
- Though I’m an owner of a few lists about Sympa,
web_archive_spam_protection
looks hidden from owners by setting in edit_list.conf. That’s why
I sent this request.
- With Sympa 6.2.13 and earlier, change of setting seems not affecting the
past archives. This request implies upgrading Sympa on this host (6.2.13) to
recent one.
Best regards,
— Soji
