The mailing list for listmasters using Sympa

I purged a number of closed lists from a server(6.1.23) and received the error below for many of the lists.   I’ve verified the lists with this error still exist in the sympa_aliases file.

wwsympa[43425]: err List::remove_aliases() Failed to remove aliases ; status 9 : Inappropriate ioctl for device

Is there a way to get sympa to rebuild the alias file based on the current active mail lists?
