The problem with using additional database fields to do this is that, of course, it means you need to modify the database schema, and the admin cannot maintain the flags via the web interface.

 

If you hold the flag in the custom subscriber attributes, then it avoids these problems, but then the user can view and change the values, which is not necessarily what you want.


I think the best answer for this need would be the ability to control the rights on custom fields.
 

I’m working on a (very small) patch for Sympa 6.2 that allows the Custom Subscriber Attributes to have two more types – Hidden and ReadOnly in addition to the current Optional and Required. 


This sounds good - I'd love to see it fit in to the more general approach to security - it should be able to make any field, custom or otherwise, set to full access, read-only, or hidden for different categories of users.
