I see value to both approaches.

I think blacklists are especially useful as a separate list, because by definition they involve addresses that are not on a list.

Having whitelists and (especially) moderated status be a separate list is something I never liked about Mj2, and am queasy about here. I realize that you might want to whitelist some non-subscriber addresses - but for subscribers (for this and moderation) I would prefer to have their address exist in only one place, their subscription, so their address changes completely if they change it...

I have now ported my Whitelist/Modlist Sympa plugin to Sympa 6.2.x, using the custom_actions architecture.  This is still in Beta as we’re not yet using Sympa 6.2 in production here, so make sure you test it properly if you’re planning on using it in production.

This plugin will allow Whitelist and Modlist functionality in addition to the native Blacklists.  There is a web interface to allow admins with subscriber maintenance privileges the ability to edit the Whitelist and Modlist for a given mailing list.  These lists are processed after the Blacklist and before the list posting scenario.  No patching of the Sympa code is required; this is done purely with web templates, custom actions, and scenario headers.

The necessary files, along with installation instructions, can be downloaded from here:  http://steveshipway.org/software/f_sympa.html

Please give feedback, positive and negative, if you install it on your system.
