Thanks.  It doesn't say anything unusual; I left it running while a message was sent to the list and failed to archive. Also I already made the quota change that Steve Dempsey suggested, which didn't help:

and the email message back says this:

Sympa could not archive message
'address@concealed.1404091257.3616.0'. Moving it into directory '/
var/spool/sympa/outgoing/bad'.
