Hi,
This is supposed to be done by Sympa.
Except if some MUA use really exotic "Re:" prefixes, they are not supposed to remain. thi is applied inside a same list. If a message is sent to list A, then replied to list B, the mangling will probably not occur, because this is, considering list B, a new thread.
