You're right, automatic lists can be any kind of list (SQL-based list, LDAP-based subscription list, or a mixture of these) ; they only differ because they are created on the fly. We provided the LDAP example because it's a rich example and it corresponds to a standard, ie as list population that is defined in your information system.

Yes I eventually tracked that down... that's useful. I am right in assuming
that the config.tt2 file can reference any source (ie file or database) and
not just the LDAP source that's used in the example?

The feature you are requesting is part of Sympa 5.3.x. It has been developed by S.Amrani for the needs of the French ministry of defense. You can browse the related documentation : http://www.sympa.org./wiki/manual/list-families#automatic_list_creation

The goal is to trigger list creation when a mail is received for the list. It makes use of list families feature and highly use the expressiveness of TT2 template format.

Sylvain, correct me if I missed an essential aspect of the feature...

We have a requirement for to be able to create mailing lists
"on the fly" for one-time mailshots. The idea being that a user would be able to specify a list of addresses to populate the list from a database (or other source) - the system would then create a mailing list with some unique name (eg address@concealed), when the mailshot is done it would then remove the list.
I seem to remember some discussion about this being done
with families a while back, but cannot seem to find a reference...can anyone on the list point me in the right direction?
