Rights from the shared repository root is inherited the same way, but configuration is defined in the list config file via the "shared_doc" parameter (see http://www.sympa.org/wiki/manual/parameters-privileges#shared_doc).

Properties are stored in .desc file for directories and in .desc.<filename> for files. Therefore you can move a whole hierarchy in one step.
To change properties you should remove .desc files of files within a directory and then define one for the directory itself. Files will inherit properties of the directory they belong to.
Just note that rights of a file/directory cannot be opened wider than the containing directory.

I tried the obvious approach, using shell commands, but then none of the property information shows up.
