We never considered adding this header field until your raised the point.
There seem to be some controversy though :

Hmm. That's interesting, and I hadn't previously seen it. I wonder if that's a guideline designed to apply only to lists for IETF traffic and communication, though.

What do your users use the Sender: header field ?
Could they use either List-Id or X-Loop instead ?

It is, as Dale mentioned in a later message, mostly for the convenience of users who've already set up filters, though I suspect there may be some MUAs and some filter software out there that makes it easier to filter on Sender: than on List-Id: or X-Loop:. Also, the user who brought this to my attention has several Outlook users on her list, and Outlook displays messages with Sender: headers as e.g.:

From Sympa List <address@concealed> on behalf of John Doe <address@concealed>

This makes it trivially easy for those users to identify where the message came from. Perhaps this could be a per-list setting? Or... hmmmm. Could I use the existing custom_header list option to accomplish this? I overlooked that before, but it might do the trick for the small handful of lists that request it.

Thanks,
Jeff
