Apostrophe is very definitely valid in email addresses. Actually, per the RFC, alphanumeric characters, along with !, #, $, %, &, ', *, +, -, =, ?, ^, _, `, {, |, } and ~ are all valid in the username portion of email addresses.

This is defined in RFC 2822. The address format is specified in sections 3.4 and 3.4.1; the valid characters are defined in section 3.2.4.
