If the custom_subject has the same name as the list, then the expected behaviour would be to rename it with the new list name.

Note sure if this is a known bug or not. I've been renaming a  
number of my lists, but I've found that after I rename a list, the  
'Subject tagging (custom_subject)' list parameter doesn't get  
automatically updated, so the list recipients still receive emails  
with the old list name in the subject.
