However, if I happen to add each staff-member with all possbile
email-addresses as editor and change the scenario to something "editors
may send, members are read-only", everybody visiting my list-homepage
get's a list of staff which should be at least a little bit
confidential. Any ideas other than changing the templates to achieve
what I want?

Personally, I do not think that the templates should be set up so that
they list the editors and admins. This is, in my mind, a huge security
and privacy risk--and unnecessary since people can just use the -request
aliases (mapped to -admin for us). My suggestion: change your templates.
Meanwhile I disabled the editor-list in the template but kept the owner-list. It took only one minute to find the relevant section and change it. I've never dared to touch those templates before, but they have a very high quality and are very easy to change. Kudos to the designers.
Regarding the owners-list I haven't decided yet, but I'll probably keep the privileged owners listed.
