Sympa used to protect web archives via a form/cookies at the entrance of the archives (you'll see "I'm not a spammer" button only if you are unauthenticated and if you don't have the HTTP cookie set).

We have since introduced other means of email addresses protection for the archives but also everywhere in the web interface (owners email address, list email addresses, address of document authors in the "Document repository",...) including :
  1. _javascript_ based protection : this offers the best result because you still can use mailto: URLs but it would make spam harvester more difficult to get them.
  2. local AT dom notation
Check the 'spam_protection' and 'web_archive_spam_protection' list parameters :

I am setting my first "publicly" archived mailing list and I am discovering that Sympa doesn't hide the email adresses in a way or in another by default (it might also be possible a more recent version of sympa)

I presume that it is a mhonarc option but I haven't found that option and I don't know if it can be driven by wwsympa.conf
