Have other people seen this behavior? Perhaps the mailto link should be removed, include a warning about IE, or replaced with a http url.
I've not seen it with IE as such, but there are certainly MUAs around that don't handle mailto: links to well. I occasionally see messages arrive here with an SMTP forward envelope of "mailto:address@concealed";. Web mail clients often don't handle the ?subject well, though some manage.
I've restructured some of my messages to try to be a little clearer:
