There are cases when you need to put aside the ethical issue, at least for a time. There is a broad range of list purposes. And the make-up of the memberships are equally diverse. Moderated-edit can be very useful for moderators who are engaging in community building and need to do hand-holding with members who are not accustomed to mailing lists. I work with a number of list moderators who are essentially community-building facilitators and they find moderated-edit to be essential as a means of introduction, establishing list purpose and flavor, etc, but all the while allowing the messages to still have the original posters address. It is a useful feature when used properly. If moderators use the featur eto make whole-sale changes to the meaning of a posters message, it becomes obvious, members get turned off and the list fails anyway.

Cheers,
Kevin

hello,

is there a way to edit messages waiting for moderation ?

it might be useful to let moderators edit the messages for
spelling mistakes. (especially in french)

on the other hand, there is the ethical problem of editing
and possibly rewriting words of another person.

has this issue already been raised ?

thanks

ps : a solution for the moderator could be to cut/paste the message
and post it on his own....
