About accessibility and usability, we are currently working on a new web
interface for Sympa 4.0.
Hopefully it will be easier to use...

Concerning the PHP front-end, I don't see much interest in having multiple
Web SYmpa front-ends, because
they will be doing the same job. Or maybe I misunderstood your request, and
you talk about
the templates syntax.

If you are willing to work on a PHP front-end, then you can use web services
to communicate with a
Sympa back-end, our SOAP Server : http://www.sympa.org/contrib.html
Currently the SympaSOAP server only provides limited features, but it will be
part of the
main distribution soon.

I'm not a programmer. Is there some one interested to work on it?

I think this would be really cool. I would also like to see a php front end for sympa. Would this require huge perl --> php code ports? Php and perl aren't too far apart in structure. It would be nice to be able to use sympa variables in a php way in page templates.
Let me know if there's interest I don't have a ton of php or perl experience, but enough to get by (and db experience too).
