Developers of Sympa

hello people,

a bunch of sympa contributors and users are trying to fix the problems of
the sympa community as RENATER has no activity on the project anymore
(not even replying to the mails).

We already

* created a #sympa channel on freenode
* created a github sympa-community as home for contrib/side projects
  with
  * a mirror of the official sympa code
         https://github.com/sympa-community/sympa
  * a puppet manifest for sympa install
         https://github.com/sympa-community/sympa-puppet-manifest
* applied to GSoC'17, ideas are here
        https://github.com/sympa-community/projects
* took contact with RENATER to ask for acces for infrastructure
  (no answer for the moment)


Next steps spotted as important and feasable (any comment on that are *very 
welcome*)
are: 

* setup an alternative infrastructure for bug tracking, documentation, CI, ...
* create a vagrant|docker stack for developpement/testing
  * docker  stack pro: easier for most cases
  * vagrant stack pro: windows contributors friendly
* start a complete new UI from scratch (no more templating: just JS views 
over a REST API)
* specification of the new business objects so the refactoring can start
* better rely on CPAN (using modules, contribute to them). Obvious examples 
are Plack,
  DBIx::Class, Moo, ...
* your ideas here

There are loads of decisions to discuss on it so we have to meet ... and it 
made me think: 

Sympa was released on april 1 1997 and we would like to celebrate
20 years of good service and talk about the future of sympa. Let's run a 

        "Happy 20th Birthday, Sympa" hackathon

The sympa hackathon will be run at the Atrium of the University of Strasbourg

* April 1 2017, from 9:00 to 22:00 (10 am)
* April 2 2017, from 9:00 to 18:00 (6 am)
