There are many reasons.

- Now 5.8.0 (*0) may not work appropriately.  5.8.4 (*1) is
  difficult to install dependencies.  5.8.8 (*2) may work.

- 5.10.1 (*3) bundles "parent" module and so on.

- 5.12.0 or later provides new features including "switch".

- ...

So I feel comfortable to support Perl 5.10.1 or better and to
abandon 5.8.x.

This issue is NOT urgent, but which we may confront sooner or later.

*1  I think of Solaris 9.
*2  I think of RHEL/CentOS 5.
*3  5.10.0 was too adventurous release.
