Hello,

I have searched list archives for OpenID and to my surprise didn't get any
results!?!
I find using OpenID very practical and more secure than scatering
passwords all over the internet. Most people tend to use just few passwords
for all their accounts. Have you considered adding support for OpenID? In
web services I would like to provide I want to use only OpenID and/or WebID
based authentication. I don't even want people using them to send me their
passwords in any form...
And I can't agree more. That's the reason why we've implemented several third party authentication methods, such as CAS, LDAP and Shibboleth.
Unfortunately, we need to sort the many new features we could implement in Sympa.
We, the code developpers (and I'll have a word soon on this list about the opportunity to extend the number of core developpers) are highly involved in the research and higher education community. For this reason, we tend to focus on features directly profitable to this community, even though we do our best to add usefull features for other communities.
Ths thing is: In our community, federated / centralised authentication is mainly based on the three authentication methods I mentionned above. OpenId, as usefull as it can be for individuals, is rarely used in the context of organizations like universities or research centers - or at least not used as the general authentication method for all organization members.

Consequently, the odds are low that we could find the time to implement it on a short term.

However, if you are willing to add this feature, we would gladly collaborate with you to help you orientating in the Sympa code, and integrate it to the code as soon as it is reasonnably stable.

With best regards,

David Verdin

I couldn't find any open source mailing list server with support for
OpenID, even OpenID mailing list which uses mailman doesn't support OpenID
=)

Words of respect for work you do!
