Hi,

I was referring to a new stable version (that would be the 5.4.7, wow, 
how time flies) that includes some bug fixes and three recently fully 
updated translations (Spanish, Japanese and Vietnamese).
As for the next major version, 6.0 version beta should be out in a near 
future. The new distribution process still needs some ironing before it 
is fully usable. That's why I don't give a date: this kind of things can 
be time consuming.

As you tackled this subject, I take the opportunity to remind the fine 
people on this list that we want to encourage you to install the 6.0 
beta version on production servers.

Indeed, each time we release a new version of Sympa, we have troubles 
testing it on the large number of configurations possible. And if we 
can't do it, we see bug reports coming a few days after the release, dur 
to some unexpected exception in the latest version of one the RDBMS 
Sympa supports (that's just an example).
So, simply put: to improve the quality of the new Sympa versions, we 
must have more beta testers.

To achieve this, we will open a page on the Sympa web site, where people 
willing to test the beta version will be able to register and provide 
some useful informations about the find of server / OS / environment 
they will use. We will provide quick answers and patches to all the 
registered beta testers, at the expense of any other Sympa-related task 
- including support for other versions.

Think of it as a kind of "premium assistance service" from the Sympa dev 
team. ;)

You help us, we help us, the new Sympa doesn't contain dumb bugs and 
everybody is happy! :)

We will announce the Sympa beta registration in a few time, along with 
the URL where you will be able to register and the release date of the 
6.0 beta.
